In the realm of Public Administration, one of the crucial aspects to be explored is the ethics involved in government decision-making processes. Understanding and researching these ethics not only sheds light on the complexities of governance but also plays a significant role in shaping policies and practices for the betterment of society.

The Trump administration has a notable background in dealing with unlawful immigration issues, including the implementation of a travel ban affecting seven countries during his previous presidency. However, the current situation presents a different landscape, as he has signed a special order for the deportation of illegal immigrants. An important question that arises is the origin of these illegal immigrants. A review of the last four years under the Biden administration reveals potential roots of this issue, particularly the decreased focus on border enforcement and insufficient funding for border security, which have contributed significantly to the current circumstances. Nonetheless, this does not resolve the ethical question regarding whether the government’s decisions concerning the deportation of immigrants are ethical or unethical.

The examination of former President Trump’s immigration policy, particularly concerning illegal immigration, presents a multifaceted landscape comprising both ethical and unethical dimensions.

Ethical Considerations:

1. Proponents assert that safeguarding national security and borders constitutes a paramount ethical imperative when implementing more stringent immigration regulations. Utilizing appropriate legal channels for immigration is believed to foster order and enhance security within the nation.

2. The Rule of Law: Advocates emphasize the crucial importance of adhering to existing immigration laws and statutes. Enforcing the rule of law is framed as a responsibility that promotes equity toward individuals endeavoring to gain citizenship legally.

3. Supporters of legal immigration argue that prioritizing legal pathways will facilitate resource allocation and prevent public services, such as education and healthcare, from becoming overwhelmed.

Unethical Considerations:

1. Critics contend that stringent immigration policies may result in the infringement of human rights, particularly for individuals seeking asylum or escaping perilous circumstances. Reports frequently indicate that separating families and detaining individuals under harsh conditions raises significant ethical concerns.

2. Discussions surrounding these policies are sometimes characterized by rhetoric that fosters increased xenophobia and discrimination against immigrants. Such narratives can perpetuate divisions and unjustly categorize entire communities based on ethnicity or nationality.

3. These policies may adversely affect the economy by diminishing the workforce and reducing the financial contributions made by immigrants. A significant population of immigrants plays a crucial role in various sectors, and their absence could hinder economic growth and stability.

4. The notion that affluent countries are morally obligated to assist immigrants and refugees is widely acknowledged. Enforcing stringent regulations may be perceived as insensitive to global challenges and human suffering.

In summary, while arguments supporting national security and legal compliance are compelling, the ethical dilemmas related to human rights violations, discrimination, and moral obligations underline noteworthy concerns regarding immigration policies directed toward illegal immigrants during the Trump administration. It is imperative to reconcile these viewpoints to formulate fair and just immigration regulations. However, it is critical to note that recent protests in Los Angeles have escalated into confrontations with law enforcement, which do not represent an ethical or lawful method of addressing this matter. Reports indicate that some protestors engaged in criminal conduct, such as the desecration of the American flag, actions which I, as a war veteran who has served to defend our nation, find unacceptable. A commendable and ethical approach to this situation would involve the deportation of individuals committing criminal acts and the apprehension of those inciting violence among demonstrators.
